A good scuba diving mask is an essential piece of diving equipment for any diving enthusiast. It is very important to know how to look after your scuba diving mask, so that it continues to deliver for every dive. In this article, we provide our top tips for caring for your scuba diving mask.

CARING FOR YOUR SCUBA DIVING MASK

In order to look after your dive mask, you just need to follow a few simple procedures.

A brand new scuba diving mask may well have a protective oily film on it, which needs to be removed before diving to avoid the mask fogging up underwater. The best way to do this is to use a little bit of traditional toothpaste to rub away the oil. After you have done this, rinse the dive mask thoroughly in fresh water.

After every scuba dive, make sure that you rinse your mask in freshwater to get rid of any salt, grit or sand that may have got into it.

After washing the mask, ensure that it is completely dry before putting it away. Moisture could encourage mould to grow, and may create bad smells.

Don’t dry your scuba diving mask in direct sunlight, or leave it there when you are not using it, as the force of the sun’s rays can cause the silicone to erode.

In order to prevent the lens of the dive mask from getting scratched, never put it face down. Invest in a cover or case for your dive mask, and it will last for much longer.

Clean your scuba diving mask from time to time, using a little toothpaste. Make sure you rinse the mask thoroughly afterwards with fresh water.
